Color Swap Birthday

I made this card for the Color Swap with my stamping group. The colors are "purple, white and one other color." My "other color" is green. (Oops, I just realized that I added slight blue and gray shading! I guess I forgot that part when I was coloring.)

I cut the doily using a Darice die. It's new (to me) and I'm disappointed that I didn't check the size before ordering it. It's too big to fit on a standard card. I was also thinking that it had more cut out of it, but most of it is embossed. I still like it well enough, though. So, I cut it, embossed it, and trimmed it down to fit on the card. The image is from an Inkadinkado set and it's colored with Copics. The sentiment is from Papertrey Ink and I embossed it with Detail White embossing powder.

Thanks so much for stopping by, and I hope you'll come back and visit again soon!

  2. It's a beautiful card! When I made mine I used purple and yellow tulips - the green leaves are just standard. :) That's a really pretty doily! I see a lot of cards with doilies where they are cut with only a partial being used so there's nothing wrong with yours!!!

  3. I totally understand your frustration about the Darice die. I have bought a few of their dies and the pictures they seem to provide to the places that sell their dies aren't very good, in my opinion. When I look at them, I'm never quite sure what the actual die cut will look like. Therefore, I have ordered very few of their dies. I was just putting my Darice dies in plastic sleeves for storage the other day and noticed that one of the dies I have not used yet is just an outline cut with all the inside only being embossed. So, I know how you felt with this doily. I've not seen this one online yet, but thanks to your info, I'll be prepared! LOL!

Your card is lovely and as far as doilies go, I see people using parts of doilies on cards more often than using the whole thing, anyway. I guess that's generally when layers are used and only half a doily is needed to peek out from under other layers. But, using larger elements and cutting them off to fit the card is also a very popular design technique these days. Bottom line is that it is our own art and we can do what we want! :) :)

  4. Oh, how pretty! Love the tulips and the doily and the purple. I've done that many times -- not notice the size of a die. Just have to make do. I like how you dropped it off the edge. I just ordered my first ever doily die.

  5. I love your card but the minute I saw it I was thinking that this die would be perfect on a square 5 - 6" card. The square card is my favorite and I am always looking for dies that work with that size.
