Die-Cut, Stencils, Embossing Paste and Glitter!

For a simple card, this card has quite a few different products. The snowflakes on the bottom are die-cut. The sentiment was done with a stencil. I used embossing paste with it and then sprinkled it with glitter. Quite sparkly in real life. I matted with red and put the panel on a white cardbase.

Christmas Embossing Folder - Two Ways

Two Christmas cards using the same Darice embossing folder. This first one is just done normally - and matted with silver. The sentiment strip is from Gina K. I used foil and my laminator on it, and it's popped up on foam squares.

This second one is done with a new technique from Jennifer McGuire that she calls "Filled Embossing Folder." I didn't go back to re-watch the video, but I believe it's simple enough that I did it the same way that she did. I used the embossing folder on blue cardstock. Then I flipped it over and used white embossing paste to fill in the indentations, scraping it off with a special little spatula. Pretty cool! I matted it with white and mounted it on foam squares. The sentiment is from Gina K. This one was black with white letters. I used silver foil on it and mounted it on foam squares also.

Leaf Stencil Two Ways

It's a two-fer today:) I used a die to cut out these leaves. At least, I think they are leaves! I used them as wheat last week on a sympathy card to North  Dakota, though. They also look like feathers to me. At any rate, that's what I used for these cards!

I cut a piece from thick cardstock and used it as a stencil. For this first card, I used embossing paste over the stencil. After removing the stencil, I added emerald pearl lustre embossing powder over the paste and heated it. It makes a cool bubbled texture. I matted with dark green. The sentiment is from Papertrey Ink and is mounted on foam squares.

For this second card, I used Deco Foil Gel and then foiled it with my laminator. The sentiment is from Inky Antics. I cut it out using a Spellbinders die.

Honeycomb Friends

I finally spent some time in my stamping room yesterday. It felt great. It feels like a long time since I made anything in there, but maybe it was just over a week. Or maybe it was two weeks. Time is kind of strange lately. Again, though, I was using up card parts. Some of the parts were not very old, but they were pre-made, nonetheless.

I recently had watched a Jennifer McGuire video about using stencils, embossing paste and glitter, so that's what I had done on the background of this card. You can't really see the glitter, though. The stencil is from Heidi Swapp. I trimmed the yellow piece down a bit and matted with black. I added a strip of gingham ribbon. The sentiment is from an old Stampin' Up! stamp set. You also can't tell this, but I colored in the open parts of the letters with a yellow marker, which is darker than the yellow cardstock.

Leafy Birthday

Another card using my leaf die. Again, I used the negative space for a stencil. This time I used embossing paste over the stencil. I added glitter to it. However, it didn't stick at all. I guess I needed to press it down or something. It's been a while since I've used embossing paste and glitter, I have forgotten! At any rate, I then sponged the green ink over the embossing paste image. I added the sentiment, from Papertrey Ink, and a thin strip of glitter Washi tape to the left edge of the panel. I mounted the image panel on foam squares.

Recycled Daisies

I have another card to share with you today. It uses a piece that I salvaged from another card. It's possible this is its third card! Maybe I'll actually send it out this time. The "recycled" piece is the daisies. I trimmed around the edges for this card. They were done with a Dreamweavers stencil, embossing paste and glitter. I can't get the color to show up very well, but here is the card that was on my blog three years ago yesterday! In that post, I link to a tutorial I did on this embossing technique a long time ago. The sentiment is one stamp which I inked up twice - in black and green. It's from Paper Inspirations.

Christmas Cards Are an All-Year Thing

I am never done making Christmas cards:) I don't often sit down to make them, but they often happen. Such is the case with this card. I came across this stencil that I got on clearance at a local paper store and hadn't wanted to put it away until I used it. I thought it would be nice with white embossing paste. I used it on blue textured cardstock and matted with white. I mounted the panel on foam squares. The snowflake was cut with a die that I got last summer and had not used yet. I think I have fourteen cards for this year finished now.

Embossing Paste Birthday

How about not-a-Christmas card for today:) Not sure why these papers were out on my table last week, but they were - sitting there looking kind of like this. So, I thought it was meant to be and this card was born.

The three patterns of paper (the stripes, the flowers, and the gray under the purple) are all from a matstack from Recollections. I used a brass stencil, embossing paste and microfine glitter for the sentiment. The butterfly was done with a Memory Box die. The sentiment panel is mounted on foam squares.

Embossing Paste Anniversary

Here's a card "letting the paper do the talking." :)

I was looking through my brass stencils one day last week, and came across this Happy Anniversary one. It had been a while again since I'd used embossing paste, so I decided to get it out again. For this card I used white glossy embossing paste. The stencil is from Dream Weaver. I scored two lines on the top and two on the bottom using my Scor-Buddy, matted with white and mounted on foam squares. Then I didn't know what to do with it! It was kind of big. I looked through my neglected patterned paper and found this piece from Die Cuts With a View Cafe Mediterranean matstack which coordinated very well with my sentiment and finished up the card very simply.

I had such a nice time yesterday. An "on-line" friend came over to stamp. So awesome! It was fun exchanging ideas and techniques. Hope we can do that again! Hi, Deb! :)

Embossing Paste Daisies

While going through some "card parts" I found this embossing paste daisy panel. It was mounted on pale yellow cardstock, which I removed. It already had some pale yellow sponged on the edges. I simply found some patterned paper to layer it with and added it to a 4 x 6 inch off-white card base.

Edited to add: The brass stencil that I used is a Dreamweavers - LL549. I did a tutorial on YouTube a few years ago, which you can find here.

Red and White Swap

My Yahoo stamping group has two challenges every month. I have not been a participant in many of them. However, I'm going to try to start being better about them. One of the monthly swaps is a color challenge. This month's colors are red and white, and here is the card I made for it.

I used embossing paste and a Sizzix brass stencil to make the heart. I also sprinkled glitter over it for some sparkle (which does not show up in the picture.) I matted with white and mounted on foam squares. I stamped the sentment (from Inkadinkado) with Versamark and embossed with detail white embossing powder. Again, I matted with white and mounted on foam squares. I embossed the background with a Cuttlebug folder.

Wyatt made a great recovery yesterday, and could possibly go home later today! I sure hope he does!

Color Swap - Rose and Green

I made this card for a color swap in my stamping group. The colors are rose and green.

I used embossing paste and a stencil from Darice. (I have a tutorial on using embossing paste here, if you are interested. I made it a few years ago - definitely amateur! But, it shows how to do it.) I stippled the ink through the stencil, added the embossing paste and then the ultrafine glitter. The pink panel and the rose panel are mounted on Dimensionals. The green patterned paper is from My Minds Eye.

Winter Thank Yous

 I was actually in the mood for stamping yesterday afternoon, and Wyatt cooperated by taking a nice long nap! :) I needed a couple thank you cards and also wanted to check the challenges on SplitCoastStampers. The Ways to Use It Challenge is to use snowmen, snowflakes, etc. Perfect!

For both of my cards, I used a Dreamweavers brass stencil and white embossing paste. After using the stencil and paste, I sprinkled with ultrafine crystal glitter. The navy paper has slight texture and the snowflake paper is from a matstack by Recollections.

"Christmas Sunday"

Well, these two are the last of my Christmas cards for this year. Yippee!! I still have to stamp on the insides, but at least the outsides are all done. I have the labels ready for the envelopes, too. I'm keeping up with my plan to be ALL ready for Christmas by Thanksgiving.

Both of these cards use a Lasting Impressions brass stencil and embossing paste - different kinds of paste, though. This first one uses Glossy White paste. After spreading it through the stencil, I sprinkled it with glitter. I matted with white and mounted on foam squares. The background was embossed with a Sizzix folder.

This second one uses what is simply called "Embossing Paste." Before spreading on the paste, I stippled with Real Red. I added glitter to this one, too, and mounted on foam squares. The patterned paper is from Recollections and is matted with New Leaf from Papertrey Ink. The sentiment panel is matted with Real Red. The ribbon was laying on my table - from a package of some sort, I believe.

Two More Thank Yous

Here are the other two thank you cards I made.

For this first one, I brayered white ink on the inside of the thank you Cuttlebug folder before embossing on Perfect Plum cardstock.  The Thank You is from the Stampin' Up! set Thank You Kindly and is stamped with Perfect Plum ink.  The butterflies are punched with a Martha Stewart punch and have pearls for their bodies.  The tag is cut with a Spellbinders die.  The ribbon is from SU!, also.

This second one is done with white embossing paste and brass stencils.  The Thank You is by Dreamweavers, and I'm pretty sure that the flower is by Lasting Impressions, but I don't have time to check right now!  Before using the embossing paste on the flower, I used markers to color through the stencil.  When I was done, I sprinkled a little bit of glitter over everything for a little bit of sparkle.

Happy Anniversary, Harriet and Bruce!

I made this card for my good friend, Harriet, and her husband, Bruce.  Their anniversary was yesterday.

 

I used a Dreamweavers stencil and embossing paste for the butterflies.  You can find my video on this technique here, if you are interested.  After they were thoroughly dry, I cut them out.  They are mounted on Pop Dots.  The cardstock is all Papertrey Ink - white, Aqua Mist and Lavender Moon.  The ribbon is from PTI, also.  I embossed the bottom of the lavender panel with a Cuttlebug border embossing folder.  The sentiment is from My Sentiments Exactly.  I stamped it with Versamark and embossed it with Iridescent Sparkle embossing powder.

Embossing Paste Cards

Well, I was able to use two of the embossing paste images from Tuesday’s tutorial so far.  I still have one left sitting on my table.  (By the way, the embossing paste I used is from Dreamweavers and is just called "Embossing Paste."  They do have other types, too.)

For this one, I matted the image with a scalloped rectangle cut from Old Olive.  The sentiment is from SU!’s Sincere Salutations.  I think the background paper is from SU!, but I’m not positive.  The ribbon is Old Olive, also.

I used the same sentiment for this one.  I used a rotary cutter with a decorative edge for the right edge of the image panel.  I scored a line with my Scor-Pal.  I also sponged Old Olive on all of the edges.  I embossed the yellow cardstock with my Swiss Dots folder.

Another Tutorial!

I’ve had a few people ask me for a tutorial on using embossing paste, and have asked where to get it.  I get mine from my friend, Vicki B.  You can find her email address and her store on her blog, Heartwarmers From Vicki.  She sells most anything from Dreamweavers to Copics to Spellbinders to Hero Arts to Penny Black to Tim Holtz … you get the picture!  (You can also get the spatula, glitter and stipple brushes from her.)  If you want something, juust ask her if she can get it for you!  And here is my tutorial.  It’s a little blurry and very unprofessional, but I think you can get the idea.  Hopefully I can get a card made with this piece by Thursday’s blog post.  (Tomorrow is WHAT IF? Another Glittery Card

   So many times I find myself writing in comments on others' cards saying, "I love the sparkle!" but I either forget or choose to not make the mess using glitter myself.  However, I've decided to change that, and add the "sparkle" that I do really like.  So, here is another one.  It is done for this week's color challenge on SplitCoastStampers, which is Ballet Blue, Barely Banana and Old Olive.
   This card is done differently than those from yesterday.  I started with a daisy stencil by Dreamweavers.  I taped it to the Ballet Blue cardstock with removable tape.  Then I stippled Versamagic Spanish Olive, PTI Fresh Snow and Color Box Canary pigment inks through the stencil.  (I generally use dye ink, but I thought the pigment ink would cover the blue better.)  I added the embossing paste, carefully removed the tape and the stencil, and then added the glitter.  After it had dried, I didn't think the color was intense enough, so I put the stencil back over the paste and stippled on a little bit of Old Olive and Barely Banana ink.  The Barely Banana strip was embossed with a Cuttlebug folder and my Scor-Pal.  The sentiment is from Repeat Impressions and is stamped with Old Olive ink.  I added a little bit of Stickles to the centers of the embossed flowers.  (If you are interested in this technique, I have a friend who sells the necessary supplies.  She also sells what you need for yesterday's cards, and just about anything else you might be interested in!  Here is a link to her blog:  Heartwarmers From Vicki.  Tell her "Lynette sent you!" Thanks, Suzie!

This is the card I made for my friend, Suzie, after we visited with them down in Florida.  It’s very similar to one I made for my brother last June.

I honestly don’t even remember what colors I used.  I know I did each shell in a couple colors.  I know I used Bliss Blue, Almost Amethyst and Sahara Sand, plus others.  At any rate, I used a brass stencil and first stippled the color on to the Very Vanilla cardstock.  Then I added embossing paste, removed the stencil and added the glitter.  The corner embellishments are some “studs” I got in the jewelry department at Michael’s.  The image panel is mounted on a grayish-tan piece of cardstock.  The sentiment is stamped with Sahara Sand and is from Stampin’ Up! – a set called Much Appreciated.  The card base is a light blue linen-y piece.  Thanks for sending me the picture, Suzie!
